What does "super classic" mean? It won't be replaced, forgotten, copied, and always playing!

Do you remember this pixel cat that looks familiar? Nyan Cat rainbow cat was a classic meme that was popular in Web2, and even sold for a high price of 300 ether (about 600,000 US dollars at the time) in 2021 as an NFT. So what is the magic of this cat that easily spans from Web2 to Web3? See the full introduction on Youtube (link).

Nyan Cat was created by Chris Torres in 2011. Another spark point was when someone synthesized music from Daniwell-P, a Japanese music producer, and put it on Youtube, where it has been viewed over 200 million times. It dominated not only virtual games, videos, forums, but also real life toys, cosplay, and creative works. The cute flying animation and brainwashing melody made Nyan Cat spread crazily around the world.

Currently, there are three types of Nyan Cat NFTs that have been issued. The first type is the 1 of 1 series, which only has one version. The second type is the multiple version series, and the third type is the series that cooperates with celebrities. We will not elaborate here, if you are interested, please go to Youtube (link) to watch the video and learn more!

Below are the highlights of the interview with Chris Torres:

💡 How do you know about NFTs? And why did you issue Nyan Cat NFT?

Chris: I've been interested in NFTs since 2021, when I learned about how artists were using them to monetize their digital art. I was unemployed due to Covid closures at the time and decided to explore this avenue for myself. I had always struggled with getting proper attribution for my work, but with NFTs, I was able to finally get recognition for my art. That's when I decided to mint the original Nyan Cat as an NFT, which enabled me to reach a wider audience and launch my Web3 adventure.

💡 Is there any special reason for the differences in editions?

Chris: There are different quantities of Nyan Cat NFTs because I wanted to make my art more accessible to collectors and ensure that each piece had a long lifespan. I used ERC-1155s to strike a balance between supply and demand, ultimately landing on 50 editions of each character. 1/1s are reserved for extra special collaborations or events. I've worked with some amazing talented people like KristyGlas, ArtPeTio, Ghxsts, Snoop Dogg and Steve Aoki, and am looking forward to some amazing new collaborative works in 2023.

💡 Why was pixel art chosen as the way to present it?

Chris: I chose pixel art because I've always been drawn to the complex, puzzle-like nature of the medium. Each canvas is about the size of a grain of rice and requires careful placement of pixel blocks to create something visually appealing despite its limitations. THEN you have to make it loop perfectly, add parallax scrolling, all the bells and whistles, on limited software. I particularly enjoy the challenge of pixel art and trying to improve with each piece I create.

💡 Which Nyan Cat is your favorite, besides the 1/1 original version?

Chris: My favorite Nyan Cat, besides the original 1/1 version, would have to be Cowboy Nyan Cat. That had to be one of my most difficult pieces to draw yet, with the animated Arizona setting and getting the hat to bounce just right. And the little little boots! It's such a fun piece and became an instant hit.

💡 What role do you think Nyan Cat will play in the future open metverse?

Chris: I see Nyan Cat playing a significant role in the future open metaverse through its integration with token linking. As a holder of a Nyan Cat NFT, you'll be able to access playable avatars in WorldWideWebb, TurfNFT, and Club Nyan Cat in Decentraland. Additionally, we've already done surprise airdrops of free wearables, so people are already able to use my art as avatar accessories in the metaverse. My goal is to continue collaborating with other cool games and projects to offer even more perks and fun options for people who own my art.
